Setting Goals - The Foundation of A Successful Career
A successful career is a desire beating in most people's heart. Even little children know exactly what they want to be when they grow up and it's usually a sensible profession. So often though, as they mature reality sets in and they lose sight of the dream that would have been a flourishing vocation. Rather than keeping their future in mind and working toward it, they give up their hopes and dreams and settle for something below their capabilities. Though so many opt to quit pursuing their goal, there are a few things that a person can do to attain their desired future profession. Setting goals is the number one key to getting started. Explicitly stating your desires and writing them down gives you a basic outline to follow when you establish goals. As so many students learn while they are taking writing classes, it's so important to make an outline before you commence writing. With your goal written in an outline form, you know the final destination and can steadily work toward it - marking off the various tasks included to become successful. Don't look at the long-term goal and think, "I'm going to accomplish this easily." There is a danger in trying to reach the end without having "checkpoints" along the way. To eliminate this potential mistake, look at the end and write it out. Starting at the end and working toward the beginning seems backward, but gives you a different perspective on the elements required to have a thriving career. Seeing it from the end to the beginning gives you a realization that reaching the finish-line is achievable. The written outline also is encouraging to have--it points out distinct and definite hurdles that must be jumped over. Amber is attending college to become a nurse. She has a lot of potential in nursing--very compassionate and caring. Her parents persuaded her to have everything that was part of becoming a business-woman planned and written out in detailed form. That one thing has aided Amber the most in following her dreams. Because she knew everything that was included in going to college, she did better than the average student. She was aware of every component in pursuing a career and that prepared her for the challenges she faced. People often think that having a successful career will come easy and it will be a utopia. Because they are abruptly slapped in the face with reality they become fearful and quit. Being prepared mentally requires a personal discipline to overcome fears of failure. Instead of focusing on your fears, expect the best of yourself and don't settle for anything less than what you're capable of doing.
These few ideas go such a long way in going after childhood dreams or even pursuing personal longings you've had in your adulthood for a specific career. Be persistent! Writing out the different elements and having a definite plan in mind enables you to envision the final outcome. Once that plan is written in stone, put it in action and get to work! Start hammering on getting to your target and don't forget to look back every so often and see where you started and how much closer you are to your destination.
